For this project, we were tasked with researching the concept of Imposter Syndrome and the related concept of the Dunning-Kruger Effect in order to teach us about how self-image can affect our work. I thought the dichotomy between the two ideas fit two of my characters from a previous storyboarding project perfectly, so I decided to utilize them and feature them on a poster mapping out the various qualities of both phenomena and how they are very different, but at the end of the day are just two sides of the same coin of false self-perception.

I first sketched my rough idea on notebook paper to figure out the basic look of the 11x17 poster before creating the poster entirely in Adobe Illustrator.

Featured below is the aforementioned concept sketch:
Here is the final product of this project. This poster features two characters from a longer personal work who were also previously featured in a condensed, altered version for my final project for storyboarding: Vincent, a tired art professor in the year 2048, and Polka, a robot built for art-making that can't draw an apple to save her life that Vincent has been tasked with teaching. The two fit the opposing concepts fairly well and oppose each other in many ways. Their character designs feature opposing colors and shape languages: red and green plus triangles versus blue and white plus circles. Their dynamic also often puts them at odds with one another as the disgruntled, short-tempered, but experienced and intelligent, teacher, and his naive, overeager student who does possess intelligence, but fails to apply it effectively due to severe lack of wisdom. I also used natural vs. mechanical theming between the two to further highlight the differences, but both trails end in the same place.
Eventually, the two might learn that, just like the concepts explored in this project, they actually aren't all that different from each other.
